Vinay is a scriptwriter and cat owner from South East London who loves telling big stories and writing in the third person.
For theatre, Vinay’s debut play TRUE BRITS started at the Edinburgh Fringe before transferring to the Bush Theatre and Vault Festival. He went on to write a romantic epic (AN ADVENTURE) for the Bush, an office satire about language and offence (STICKS & STONES) for Paines Plough while his latest production, a South Asian sci-fi adaptation of THE CHERRY ORCHARD premiered at the Yard Theatre before heading to HOME in Manchester.
His first piece for television, MURDERED BY MY FATHER ("A brave piece of television ★★★★★" - The Telegraph), was released on BBC3 online in March 2016 and was rebroadcast on BBC1 in April. For this work, he was selected as a 2016 BAFTA Breakthrough Brit. MURDERED BY MY FATHER was nominated for three BAFTAs, with Adeel Akhtar winning for Best Actor. Most recently, Vinay wrote for the 11th and 12th series of DOCTOR WHO - receiving a Hugo nomination for both his episodes - and on the Netflix adaptation of ONE DAY.
Elsewhere, he has contributed to the bestselling collection of essays, THE GOOD IMMIGRANT and is currently working on projects for Complete Fiction, Film 4, Empire Street Productions and English Touring Theatre as well as working at the Royal Court Theatre as an Associate Playwright. He’s somewhat stressed about all this but is convinced that it’s going to be OK.
